Palomares is a hamlet in the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora in the province of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalucía, Spain.

Situated between Vera Playa and Villaricos, Palomares offers a very relaxing position away from the busy tourist areas maintaining a certain rural charm while just being 1.5km from the beach.

The easiest way to get to Palomares will depend on where you’re travelling from. From Almeria you’ll want to take the A-7 motorway towards Murcia and come off at exit 695B signposted for Vera and Antas. As you come off the motorway you’ll continue following the signs to Vera until you hit another roundabout where you’ll want to take the exit for the A-352 towards Vera Norte and Garrucha. Follow this road to the next roundabout and continue straight towards Garrucha. At the following roundabout with the Vera Fountain in the center and the bullring to your right you’ll want to take the 4th exit towards Garrucha. This road will turn into a duel-carridgeway all the way down to Vera Playa at which point you’ll hit the “Buganvilla Roundabout”. Again take the 3rd exit this time toward Villaricos and San Juan de los Terreros. Follow this road straight for about 5km and you’ll come to Palomares on your left.

Patron Festival

These festivities take place at the beginning of August in honor of the Patron Saint, the Virgen del Carmen. The first day there are different championships: dominoes, billiards, indoor-football, etc. The second day the election of the children and youth Queen is celebrated. On the third day, around 11:30 in the morning, there is a peculiar flower walk in which the residents are dressed in regional costumes and with bouquets of flowers to give them as an offering to the Virgin. It is on this day when the midday fair begins at the fairgrounds, where you can try the typical dishes of the village.
